At the Große Scheidegg, Berner Oberland, Switzerland
The Eiger with its famous northface and the surrounding mountains are beside the Matterhorn one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Alps. For the third time I have been in the region around Grindelwald and the weather god was against me another time.

Almost ten minutes, actually only the first ten minutes of the day the sun showed up. Fortunately I have already set up my equipment and was waiting for the moment when the first rays kissed the summit of the Blackhorn.

Giessenfall, St. Gallen, Switzerland
Water and rocks, the first is flowing and changes with every second, the latter symbolises strength and stability. Maybe this opposition makes it so interesting to me. As simple as this combination might be, I love to stroll along streams and canyons taking photographs.

Evening Glow, Corsica, France
The high-contrast island. In the morning you pass snowfields on the way to a mountain lake and in the afternoon you enjoy the beach and the waves of the Mediterranean Sea.
Corsica is relatively small, but manifold. The roads are narrow and winding, the coast alternates between wonderful sandy beaches and steep cliffs.

Frozen River, Lapland, Sweden
For several hours I walked through the valley Laddjovagge looking for impressive photo opportunities. Swedens highest peak, the 6926ft high Kebnekaise, is only a few miles away.
On my way back to the cabin, I stopped one moment to absorb one last time the intimate silence. Neither the light nor the landscape seems to be spectacular, nevertheless this image shows perfectly the character of the landscape.

Fishing Hut, Lapland, Sweden

End of March the days get longer and the temperature during the day is only a few degrees Celcius below sero. However, while taking the above image the thermometer showed -30°C! The horizon emerges turquoise from the northern lights.
The image was taken during a several day long sled dog tour through northern sweden. Many thanks to the congenial couple Sara and Johan from Explore the North who invited me to join them on a tour taking pictures.

Winterly Hochkönig, Salzburg, Austria
The "High King" (9649 ft) is one of the most well know mountains in the eastern alps. The spectacular 3000ft high south face is several miles broad.
I appreciate living in a country where the landscape alters noticeable through the seasons. Every time of the year has its high-lights, but winter is very special to me. Colors are reduced, contrast is enhanced and the snow creates facinating shapes.

Glen Coe Autumn, Scotland, UK
Glen Coe and its surrounding valleys is one of the finest sceneries in Scotland. In autumn the intensive colours of the vegetation show up0 perfectly. The image shows the view to the west, with two of the "Three Sisters" on the left.
I spent four days in the region and four days the weather was wet and windy. Due to the fact that the wind was blowing and it even rained while I was taking this picture, I am more than thankful for the result.

Dunstanburgh Castle by moonlight, Northumberland, UK
It was already the second evening on which I walked the 1,5 miles to the beach with the "dinosaur eggs". On the evening before, the moon didn’t really shine through the clouds properly and I returned to my camper in disappointment.
However, on the following day, there were fewer clouds in the sky and I only had to wait for a gap to open up and press the shutter. The half moon rose at the ideal position for beautiful sidelight approximately an hour before the photograph was taken. The striped pattern in the sky is created by the thin clouds scudding by.  However, what is quite special about the picture is the warm light at the back from the right which was caused by a distant town.
Exposure time 15 minutes.

Conciergerie and Pont au Change, Paris, France
Paris, as is generally known, is one of the most interesting cities in Europe from a historical and architectural point of view. This gives rise to an enormous number of possibilities from a photographer’s perspective.
On the 4 days which I spent in Paris, the weather was anything but fine. Therefore, all that was left were the dawn and dusk to make well composed pictures. Unfortunately, the much vaunted “blue hour” lasts for only 10 minutes, during which I then chase from subject to subject.

Vienna Forest Sunset, Lower Austria

This picture confirmed for me once again that you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to find worthwhile
subjects. The ruined castle of Rauhenstein is in the scenic Helenental valley which meanders from my hometown Baden in a westerly direction through the Vienna Woods.
It was a sweltering, hot day and the sun appeared not to want to set. I was walking back and forth in the woods, perspiring and followed by dozens of insects and trying to find a space among the trees. This photograph is a good example which shows that you can also use “lens flare" artistically, although it is regarded as a negative feature of a lens.

Deadvlei, Namib Desert, Namibia

I was still a child when I marvelled for the first time at the several centuries old camel thorn trees in the Deadvlei in a collection of photographs. A unique landscape which is actually untypical of nature, because the shapes are so clear and simple. A graphic landscape.
Of course, I couldn’t miss that on my first trip to Namibia. You trudge through the hot sand for a mile to find yourself then surrounded by the orange-coloured dunes of this natural wonder. While I was taking the photograph, the wind was giving me trouble. The air was clear and the sun was setting in a leisurely manner on the horizon.
